Fewer than 1 percent of Americans reach the age of 100, but a new study from the Netherlands indicates that individuals who reach the centenarian milestone with their mental faculties still intact are likely to remain so for their remaining years. Such findings may lead to more of us becoming “cognitive super-agers”, as researchers hope to identify reliable characteristics and develop treatments to ward off Alzheimer’s disease and slow brain aging for us all.
