“SPI has a track record of collaborating across systems to maximize well-being in communities. One example is our work with AAP-CA3 and other San Diego-based organizations on ACEs Aware. We strongly believe that together we can raise awareness, promote ACEs screening, treat and heal from the negative consequences of trauma to promote the importance of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and its impact on children and families.”

– Steve Hornberger, Social Policy Institute Director

The Social Policy Institute is pleased to announce that it has received a grant award from the ACEs Aware Initiative, led by the Office of the California Surgeon General and the Department of Health Care Services. Along with the American Academy of Pediatrics Chapter 3 (AAP-CA3), and other San Diego key players, such as the YMCA of San Diego and the San Diego Health Care Quality Initiative, we will support the expansion of screening for ACEs by pediatricians; help build a network of community providers to receive referrals; and inform parents and caregivers of the benefit of this new protocol during well child visits. We welcome the opportunity to work closely with our partners and commit to providing a collaborative space where organizations can share lessons learned and best practices in actively addressing the social determinants of health.
