Child welfare is a critical area in which challenges with confronting inequity and deep-seated issues of racism is a necessity.

To assist individuals and organizations explore the impact of race and equity within the child welfare system, the Children’s Bureau has launched the “2024 Race Equity Challenge,” which consists of five interactive learning modules.

These modules cover a variety of equity-focused topics, and can be used within your organization to start conversation, dialogue, and change among staff and leadership.

The modules cover topics from educating about race equity to how to apply this into your work.

  1. The Road to Equity” Sets the context for race equity in child welfare
  2. Building on Protective Factors: Family Networks” acknowledges how protective factors are expressed differently in diverse communities
  3. Understanding Disproportionality in Child Welfare” dives deeper into how disproportionality manifests in child welfare
  4. Culture in Child Welfare” highlights how important cultural identity is to parents and families in feeling seen and supported
  5. Shared Trauma, Collective Resilience, and Healing” examines how you can take a healing, resilience-focused approach to working with children and families
